Lake District 2001

Another view of the Ullswater valley from beside the ruin shown above. I'd
better stop this description now before I start talking about corries and
U-shaped valleys...
This picture doesn't really give an idea of how steep some parts of the path
were - or perhaps I was even less fit than I thought... You can see the
other end of Ullswater peeking round the hillside - Glenridding was on the
further shore just out of shot.
A view down the river feeding Ullswater, pointing away from the lake. I can
imagine this view being on a biscuit-tin somewhere...
As you can see, everyone was filled with large amounts of energy after we got
back. I believe someone eventually did drum up enough enthusiasm to prepare
dinner (and everyone seemed rather enthusiastic about eating it).
Taken up a small valley in the evening - the photo doesn't properly capture
the warm, golden glow as the sun sank beneath the horizon, but you get
the idea.
On the second day we decided we'd recover from walking slightly and do the
touristy thing - going boating on Ullswater! Fortunately, it was quite a
nice day, as you can see.
Just a perfect photo-opportunity. I suspect the tourist board planted that
tree on purpose...
It was so nice, I had to take a closer shot too...
Geoff and Dave decided it would be a fun idea to land on the island and have
a bit of a break. Dave also let Nim use his canoe for a little while...
... Well, perhaps "little" wasn't the operative word. I believe Nim didn't
stay out for too long...
