Lake District 2001In August 2001 me, Abbie, Dave(J), Geoff, Gill, James, Jenny and Nim trundled up to the Lake District to do a bit of walking and poking around and stuff. The weather was OK, and we had great fun - walking Striding Edge in the rain and wind was certainly an experience! Can we do it at night in thick fog and a blizzard next time? Pleeeeease?? :) Anyway, here's my (somewhat amateurish) shots - I wasn't afraid of using my camera as you can see!

The evening of the day we arrived, and we can see Dave and Abbie
studiously hunched over the map, planning for every available eventuality.
Nim, of course, is easily distracted by the phrase "Drum and Bass".
A rare example of Dave being somewhere between hyperactive and completely
knackered...
Ahhhh, this is the life...
On Sunday we decided to do a little walk to get into practice. Unfortunately,
it ended up being about 2 miles of continuous steep climbing. We'd had a
short rest here, which is why people don't look *too* dead...
Dave and Abbie appear to have spotted something they're not too impressed
by...
Big cheesey grins all round, though James looks a trifle apprehensive - perhaps
he was worried about falling off? The lake in the background is Ullswater,
which we stayed very close to. How come the sun's over there??
A slightly different view to that above, showing Ullswater and it's valley
stretching off to the Northern Fells in the background.
I particularly liked Geoff's choice of white trousers for hiking in muddy
terrain... Needless to say they weren't quite so white by the end of the
week!
Hmmm... Perhaps it's time we got off this peak now...
Halfway up was an old ruin - probably just a barn or somesuch, but it would
be nice to imagine having a little cottage there. Nice view - don't know about
the weather, though...
