Cambridge - Spring 2001Below are a random set of pictures I took around the Cambridge area during Spring 2001. My digital camera was still fairly new then, so the quality on a few of them is pretty poor - it probably doesn't get in better, but at least for these shots I've got a valid excuse...
The Cambridge Curry Centre had a facelift recently and this is a
snap of the new facia. Somehow the old look seemed far more appropriate
for the title... But you never know, maybe the food's been upgraded
to be as classy(!) as the exterior.
This was as close as I got to a flood photo, unfortunately. OK, so the
water's only a few feet above normal level, but it's a reasonable
picure of Jesus Lock. Apart from the bad light, the poor focus,
etc.
You can see that despite missing the worst of the floods, the water's
still not dawdling. I'll get around to putting up some comparison
shots sometime... Maybe...
A nice evening shot along the Cam towards Magdelane Bridge from Jesus
Lock. If you look to the left, it does demonstrate why I'm so amazed
there wasn't more damage in the floods - about half the Cam has banks
a low as that.
Proof that Cambridge is in fact (just about) alive - behind some of
the historic frontage, there's a few streets with some vaguely new
development. This shot shows Mount Pleasant Street, taken from
the (old) office.
Back in March or thereabouts, me and my friends Rich, Jenny and Geoff
decided, quite randomly, to drive over to the East coast for the
evening. On the way we stopped off in the quaint little village
(*cough*) of Ipswich for some food. Making up our minds was the tricky
bit, but we found a great Thai place to which I hope to return
someday!
As usual Geoff presented his cheesey grin to the world - unfortunately,
the wind changed just at that moment and he's looked identical ever
since. Or maybe he just always looked like that...
Eventually we made it to Felixstowe, and Rich met up with his friend
Louisa (Rich, rant at me if the spelling's wrong :) - unfortunately,
she was a little camera shy (which might have had something to do with
my bad photography at the time :)
The evening came to an abrupt end, however, when Rich suddenly revealed
his Vampiric nature to the rest of the club. And if you look very
carefully over his left shoulder...
... you'll see he'd brought his own personal demon into the club to
aid his nefarious schemes!
