About me

Bad picture of me!

If you're thinking, "so who exactly is this bloke, anyway?" then get something more interesting to do in your life - but if you still want to know, you've come to the right place. There's some background information on me, including a copy of my CV, and there's also a photo archive, which my friends might wish to peruse. I'm willing to remove any of the photos - for the right price...

Background

Millions of years ago, a vast explosion rocked the fledgling universe, starting off a process which has eventually lead to me (I also believe some other stuff has happened as a result). In brief, I was born in Swindon (see map) which is an almost utterly unremarkable town in southern England. I spent my childhood in the nearby town of Wootton Bassett, which can be described in exactly the same way (except the 'almost'). For Americans and other aliens, England's the quaint little country dangling off Europe that makes the decent beer. Yes we do serve it warmer than yours - that's because we actually like the taste of it.

The astute among you might also notice Cambridge marked above, which is where I'm currently residing. The even more astute might notice the map shown is really quite impressively inaccurate - I might think about getting round to correcting that sometime.

Most of the stuff that's happened to me during my life is pretty boring, so I'll omit the tedious parts in a vain effort to keep you awake for a few more seconds. OK, so that wouldn't leave anything to say - the summary is: started off wanting to do mathsey sciencey things, realised computers paid better, went to Cambridge University (and still haven't managed to escape the town) and somewhere along the line discovered beer. Sorted.

I'm a fairly average British bloke. I spend too much of my time performing almost any conceivable activity involving computers, but fortunately I have enough friends to drag me off down the pub (or other places... sometimes...) when I'm in danger of losing my life completely. Actually I lost it years ago, but don't tell anyone. I also used to like getting out and about either walking or cycling, but there seems to be precious little of that going on lately. Telling myself I'll take it back up again someday gives me something to do on the long, winter evenings while I'm waiting for someone to get the next round in.

Contact Info

The best way to get in touch with me is to e-mail me at andy@andy-pearce.com. Anyone mailing me with huge attachments or vast swathes of HTML will be summarily ignored and quite possibly ranted at - a fate worse than death, I'm sure. If you prefer more antiquated forms of communication you can phone me:

Daytime: 01223 707339   ( International: +44 1223 707339 )
Evening: 01223 327008   ( International: +44 1223 327008 )
Mobile: 07989 387625   ( International: +44 7989 387625 )

For fell Brits who might be wondering whether they can get away with calling my mobile for free, I'm a loyal subject of the Orange Empire. If all this exciting new technology still leaves you a little weak at the knees, you can still fall back on good old Royal Mail - you can send stuff to me at work:

GlobespanVirata
Unit 230 Science Park
Milton Road
Cambridge
CB4 0WB
United Kingdom

Or if you're very lucky, I might give you my home address. I've been made paranoid enough not to put it on my web page (the old ones that were here are now invalid). If you think you want it, mail me and we'll see!

In both cases it's probably sensible to address the item in question to me, Andrew Pearce. You could address it to Vlad the Impaler, I suppose, but it probably wouldn't achieve very much (except perhaps a lawsuit for offending the poor postal worker if you're in a litigation happy society).

If you have any comment or queries, feel free to mail me! If you want to make sure it's private, here's my PGP public key
