Welcome!

Hello and welcome to my own personal parking on the information superhighway - possibly less of an inner-city multi-storey and more of a lay-by on the A1 near Milton Keynes, but it's mine. If you're interested in getting to the more useful parts of the site (relative as that may prove), feel free to go straight there since this page contains nothing more than my inane ramblings and some more information about the pages. For those who still have their internet L-plates, you can find some information on how to browse the site by clicking here.

Also, I suppose I'd better include the usual plea - if you spot any errors or problems, please mail me and I'll try my best to sort them out. I'm fairly new to these dodgey stylesheet things and it's quite possible that some bits of the site will more closely resemble a cheap Picasso imitation than a decent web page, so make sure to mention what browser you're using. For those of you reading the HTML/CSS source, try to ignore the awful kludges I've had to use to get the popular browsers to even think about displaying these pages correctly!

News

Wednesday, 5 September 2001

I've put some more photos in the photo archive - mostly from my Lake District holiday last month, but also a few new ones in the current Cambridge section . There's also a new outdoor section which most people will probably find amazingly boring!

Monday, 4 June 2001

OK, so this site is destined never to be finished. Not that this is surprising for homepages of course... Anyway there are now some pictures in the photo archive.

Thursday, 15 March 2001

The humour section now actually has some stuff on it. That's 50% of the pages done so far...

Only the most recent news items are shown here - for a list of all the news items since the year dot, head over to the news archive page.

Site summary

The section titles should be fairly self-explanatory but in case you're looking for something specific, here's a brief summary of what's where:

Personal

Probably more than you ever wanted to know about me (which wouldn't be much by most people's standards), including contact info and pictures. This is also the place to look for links to friends and family pages as well as as many embarassing photos as I could lay my hands on.

Graphics

Messing around with graphics is a little hobby of mine, and I've done a few patterns that you might like to use as desktop backgrounds, which are available here. There's also various links about image editing packages which may be handy.

Software

Mainly a set of links to software that I've found useful or cool for Windows or Linux. If you're looking for software I've written myself, see the next section.

Coding

Another hobby (and my job!) is crashing out code in various forms. I haven't written much which would be useful to the world in general, but what I have written is available here along with any links or information I think might be handy. Note that I include markup languages like HTML in this section.

Humour

The internet can be a funny place, and here's where I stick just about anything I find funny. There's also some links to some other humerous sites.

Miscellaneous

Proof that any classification system is inadequate (or at least any system small enough to fit on a titlebar!). This page contains random stuff that just doesn't fit anywhere else!

Using the site

The site should be fairly easy to use, but in case you're having problems this section details how to navigate around. You might also find the site summary useful.

The main areas of the site can be reached using the buttons within the titlebar. If you have Javascript enabled then a short explanatory message should appear when you move the mouse over each button. In addition, at the lower left of the titlebar is a location bar which displays the current section of the site.

It is also possible to navigate using standard links within the pages. These are always coloured blue and underlined - links you've already followed in the recent past should be a slightly darker shade of blue. There is usually a set of links displayed at the top of the page in the blue bar at the left-hand side. These consist of links to "Sections", which will take you to various places in the same page, and "Pages", which lead to other pages in the same area of the site. There may also be other links listed which are relevant to the contents of the page.

Credits

It appears to be traditional to have a section in which to place random graphical banners which might have potentially had some possible influence on the site or author. This is my such nod to web convention. If anyone can think of a better name for it, please mail me!
