GraphicsI've always had something of an interest in drawing and graphics, but I lack anything even resembling talent for creative drawing or painting. I do fiddle around with graphics packages and image editors now and then, however, and that's essentially what this page is about. Its purpose is twofold. Firstly it functions as a handy place to stick links to sites or packages which I've found helpful in the past, or indeed any documents, tutorials, etc.. Secondly it's a repository for any graphics I've created myself, should anyone want to use them for some reason known only to themself. As illogical as it may seem, links to graphics packages are on the appropriate part of the software page rather than here. This is the page to look for links to resources and picture archives, however.
Graphics ResourcesWhile there are a few hardcore graphic artists who start with nothing to worth with but a mouse, keyboard and buckets of patience, the rest of us find it handy to nab the odd texture or font. Here's a list of links to various resources you might find useful. Fonts | Tileable patterns | Scripts and plugins | Brushes FontsFor most web design and related graphics, a decent set of fonts are a must. Most of the fonts below are in TrueType format. Windows users should be able to install them easily - those using X should look at these links to font utilities for TrueType-capable font servers. Daft amounts of information about fonts in general - a little old, but interesting nonetheless. Microsoft TrueType Font Resources
Microsoft ( Tileable PatternsFor graphical work in general it's often useful to have bitmaps that will tile seamlessly, but it's often remarkably hard to create decent ones. Why not let other people do the hard work for you? Sorry! I'm afraid I haven't had time to stick any links in this section yet! The basic tools of an image editor are handy for those who have the talent to use them, but if you want to avoid all that work you can often achieve remarkably impressive results using a script or plugin to create special effects. Those below are mainly intended for the Gimp, since that's the editor I use, but if I find any links for Photoshop or other editors I'll stick them in as well. Sorry! I'm afraid I haven't had time to stick any links in this section yet! BrushesSome interesting effects can be achieved by painting with different shaped brushes, and small pictures can also be stamped onto the image this way. The links below are to sites which have sets of brushes to use, or images which might be suitable for conversion. Sorry! I'm afraid I haven't had time to stick any links in this section yet!
Picture ArchivesOf course, as a last resort if you can't manage to create what you're looking for you could always just have a look and see if someone else has already done it. This section has links to various picture archive sites - these contain anything from photos to paintings. They're useful in their own right, but they can also be handy as source material for collages at the like. Landscapes | Animals | Mixed LandscapesThese sites contain mainly photos, paintings and drawings of landscapes and natural features. They often tend to make good desktop backgrounds and the like, and might make useful backdrops to other artwork. Sorry! I'm afraid I haven't had time to stick any links in this section yet! AnimalsPhotos and drawings of animals make up these archives. These could be useful as the basis for other work. Sorry! I'm afraid I haven't had time to stick any links in this section yet! MixedQuite a number of archives have their own subdivisions and cover quite a few categories - these are listed below. If an archive specialises particularly in a certain area, it may also be listed in one of the sections above. Sorry! I'm afraid I haven't had time to stick any links in this section yet!
